Kung Hei Fat Choy!
“Taste Our Love for Hawaii” is part of Hashi Media, the digital platform of curated culinary stories that feature the global network of the Hawaii Food & Wine Festival. This platform is about bridging food and culture. It has been a passion project of mine; I’ve always been interested in my heritage and cultures from around the world. Food means something to everyone whether they know it or not. It is a way that connects us because it shows up every day and is as a part of our identity. We identify ourselves and the places we’re from with the foods we eat – it is about who we are and where we came from. Hashi Media is about telling those stories about people and culture through food a way that unites us rather than divides us. It is about commonalities vs differences. If we look closely we can find all sorts of parallels – raw fish shows up as poke, ceviche, sashimi to name a few, and even the way we prepare things are similar in so many ways. We hope to bridge food and culture and to showcase humanity and our commonalities as human beings. And, I hope again, we can make a difference by addressing the racial divide in our community through this platform.
I’m excited for the premiere of “Taste Our Love for Hawaii, Episode 2, In and On The Ocean” featuring Chef Raphel Lunetta of Lunetta in Santa Monica, CA. This series was born out of the pandemic to showcase the bounty and beauty of Hawaii during a period when we all could not travel. We hope this captures the natural beauty of our islands and the amazing agriculture and seafood we have here, as well as the culture and stories of our islands in a fun and entertaining way.
This episode will air on Sunday, February 6 at 7 P.M. on KHON2 and rebroadcast on Hawaii’s CW on February 9 at 6:30 P.M. and KHII on February 12 at 7 P.M. The episode will also be available on Hashi Media’s YouTube channel after the premiere HERE. We hope you enjoy the show!
