It has always been our dream to capture and share the hundreds of unique food and culture stories behind the talent—chefs, winemakers, mixologist, and producers—of the Hawaiʻi Food & Wine Festival. Our first magazine publication, Hashi, debuted with the 2019 Festival, followed by our digital platform, Hashilife.com which launched in 2020. While we were able to capture stories through these opportunities, as well as some short form videos we produced over the years, nothing compares to the original series we debut this month.

“Taste Our Love for Hawaiʻi,” our first original half-hour program, premieres on Thursday, October 14 on KHON2 at 7:00 P.M. HST. Produced by Hawaiʻi Food & Wine Festival and directed by Makaha Studios, the program features breathtaking views of the 170 year-old Kualoa Ranch Private Nature Reserve, including the 800 year-old Moliʻi fishpond. Cattle, kalo (taro), pigs, shrimp and oysters are some of the agriculture and aquaculture produced on the 4,000 acres of biodiverse lands named Kualoa, Hakipuʻu and Kaʻaʻawa.

Our first episode, “Agriculture Meets Tourism,” stars chefs Ed Kenney of Mud Hen Water and Kaimuki Superette and Spike Mendelsohn, Washington D.C.-based chef, restauranteur and food policy advocate. Over the years, Ed and Spike have become the best of friends and their chemistry on camera makes the show entertaining, as well as informative. Together, they jump on ATVs, cast shrimp nets and see first-hand how oysters are cultivated, exploring how agriculture and tourism thrive together in the microcosm of Kualoa Ranch. Through this series, we hope that you, our Hashi community, as well as new viewers, gain an appreciation for the foods we eat and the lands we steward while also gaining new perspectives on diversity, sustainability and responsibility in our Islands.

We hope you enjoy this new original series, as we forge ahead with new opportunities to share stories, connecting all of us through Hashi and the people who taste our love for Hawaii. Stay tuned for more to come.

Thank you for your continued support.
